According to journalist Robert Jobson's forthcoming biography of Catherine, Princess of Wales, King Charles raised concerns with Prince William about his use of a helicopter to transport Catherine and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, which caused a tense standoff between the pair.
According to a new excerpt from Jobson's book, Charles raised his concerns about the issue after the announcement in February 2024. The new book claims that the monarch even gave experienced pilot William a formal document acknowledging the risks involved and taking full responsibility for his actions amid the conflict.
The former asked William not to fly with his family in a helicopter from Kensington Palace to their former residence Anmer Hall in Norfolk, a 115-mile journey, according to Jobson. Queen Elizabeth has not been quiet about her views, an aide shared in the book. Buckingham Palace does not comment on the monarch’s private conversations or views.
But they do consider the safety and security of others when deciding on the most appropriate form of transport for the royal family. Elsewhere in the book, Catherine, who is currently in the process of overcoming difficulties, is praised for her influence on William, especially when it comes to tensions between the prince and his father.
A source told Jobson that Catherine was someone who always tried to see both sides of every disagreement and was emotionally mature in their relationship. King Charles also praised Catherine’s positive impact on his eldest son, according to the book. I think the king understands that Catherine is a good influence on the whole family. He loves and really appreciates everything she does, a courtier said.
